When the thief Rose lures the powerful gangster Ferguson and sells a fake Rembrandt to him for 900,000 pounds, he contracts Maynard to kill her. He follows Rose and fails in his attempt; but soon he feels attracted for her and spares her life. Meanwhile Fergunson sends his two bodyguards to kill Rose in a parking garage but Maynard saves her helped by the car washer Tony. Maynard feels potential in Tony and invites him to be his apprentice and Rose and Tony believe he is a private detective. They flee from the bodyguard that has survived and Maynard decides to protect Rose and Tony. Soon Victor is pressed by his mother Louisa Maynard that is worried about her family reputation while Fergunson hires two sadistic killers to hunt rose and Victor down. But Victor and Rose seems to be made for each other. Victor Maynard is a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency. His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose. He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring in the process a young apprentice, Tony. Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and found the story to be original and funny throughout. Emily Blunt plays an extremely sexy con-artist who crosses paths with an up-tight Bill Nighy playing a professional assassin hired to kill her.<br/><br/>The characters are likable and well-cast. Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt strike up a modern day love-story that is unconventional and yet somehow totally believable. The family bond that is established with Rupert Grintthe adopted son worked very well and was charming. <br/><br/>If you want to see something different, interesting and funny then I really recommend giving this film a chance. Victor Maynard is a middle-aged, solitary assassin, who lives to please his formidable mother, despite his own peerless reputation for lethal efficiency.<br/><br/>His professional routine is interrupted when he finds himself drawn to one of his intended victims, Rose.<br/><br/>He spares her life, unexpectedly acquiring in the process a young apprentice, Tony.<br/><br/>Believing Victor to be a private detective, his two new companions tag along, while he attempts to thwart the murderous attentions of his unhappy client….<br/><br/>This film should not work at all, and should be a career low for all involved, but somehow, the film manages to work, and all involved look like they are having fun whilst making this.<br/><br/>In the age of British film, i was not expecting somethingclassy&#39;a Fish Called Wanda&#39;, nor was I thinking this would be amusing.<br/><br/>I was expecting a movie along the lines of &#39;carry on Columbus&#39; or &#39;Alien Autopsy&#39;.<br/><br/>If you can swallow the fact that Nighy and Blunt fancy each other, you are in for a treat featuring a n eclectic cast of Brits.<br/><br/>The two leads really are fantastic in this, and if it wasn&#39;t for the chemistry between the two, this would be heavily average, if anything can possibly be.<br/><br/>Freeman plays a bit of a wideboy hit-man, which is a change, Grint plays a bit of a dunce, which isn&#39;t, and Everett seems to be playing the same character since Inspector Gadget.<br/><br/>It&#39;s not a must see movie, but if you come across it on a cold Sunday afternoon, give it a go, it&#39;s worth it. Nearly every element here is wildly off-target, from Jonathan Lynn's ("The Whole Nine Yards") lazy helming and Lucinda Coxon's shambolic script to the embarrassed-looking perfs from usually excellent lead thesps Bill Nighy and Emily Blunt.
